Promise of Wizard, or Mahoyaku, originated as a popular smartphone simulation game developed by coly before being adapted into an anime series by Studio LIDENFILMS in 2025. The narrative follows a protagonist summoned to an alternate world where twenty-one wizards are tasked with protecting the planet from a recurring celestial threat known as the Great Calamity. This adaptation brings the visual aesthetic of the original game to television, focusing on the character-driven dynamics between the wizards and the protagonist.

The character designs for the series remain rooted in the original game's art style, which emphasizes high-fantasy aesthetics and distinct visual motifs for each of the five nations within the world. Produced by LIDENFILMS, the series aimed to translate the game's atmospheric world-building and interpersonal drama into a serialized format. Upon its release, the project was anticipated by the existing fan base of the source material, who sought to see the established character arcs realized through the studio's animation techniques.
