Puchimas!: PETIT IDOLM@STER (OVA)

The Puchimas!: Petit Idolm@ster series originated as a four-panel manga by Akane published in Dengeki Maoh, serving as a whimsical, chibified spin-off of the main The Idolm@ster franchise. The 2018 OVA release represents the continued expansion of this lighthearted universe, which reimagines the original idols accompanied by mysterious, animal-like creatures known as 'Puchidols.' These iterations were designed to emphasize humor and surreal, slice-of-life interactions that contrast with the more serious tone of the core games.

The animation production for this iteration was handled by Gathering, a studio known for their specialized approach to Flash-style anime which effectively translated Akane's distinct artistic style to the screen. By utilizing a minimalist and expressive aesthetic, the creators intended to offer fans a relaxed, comedic alternative to the main idol narrative. The project was well-received by the dedicated franchise fanbase as a charming supplement that successfully maintains the unique personality traits of the main cast within a miniaturized, comedic format.
