Where it came from
Puchimas!! Petit Petit iDOLM@STER: Fuyu-->Kotatsu<--Haru was released in 2014 as an original video animation that serves as a short, seasonal installment within the Puchimas! franchise. The series originated from a four-panel spin-off manga by Akane Bancho, which reimagines the characters of The Idolmaster as chibi-style creatures known as Puchidols. Produced by the studio Gathering, the animation was designed to capture the absurd, laid-back humor of the source material, focusing on the comedic interactions between the idol producers and their miniature, often mischievous counterparts.
The creative direction for this series focused on maintaining a distinct, minimalist aesthetic that translated the manga’s simple, expressive character designs into a fast-paced, episodic format. It was produced during a period of high popularity for the broader Idolmaster multimedia project, specifically catering to fans who enjoyed a more whimsical and comedic side to the well-established character archetypes. Upon release, it was well-received by the established fanbase for its lighthearted tone and its faithfulness to the surreal personality traits assigned to each Puchidol.
