Where it came from
Puso Ni Comi: Okawari was released in 2020 as a follow-up to the original Puso Ni Comi project, a series of short, comedic ONA shorts produced by studio Passione. These shorts were designed as promotional accompaniments for the High School DxD anime franchise, specifically intended to keep fans engaged during gaps between major television seasons by offering a lighter, self-referential take on the series' established characters.
The creative direction for these shorts focused on a distinct, simplified chibi art style that intentionally contrasted with the detailed character designs of the main series. By utilizing this aesthetic, the production team leaned into slapstick humor and meta-commentary, allowing the studio to experiment with the franchise's tone. The shorts were generally received by the community as a lighthearted expansion of the source material, valued more for their brevity and humor than as essential narrative developments.
