Puzzle & Dragons X

Puzzle & Dragons X emerged in 2016 as a television anime adaptation produced by Studio Pierrot, designed to expand the cultural footprint of GungHo Online Entertainment's highly successful mobile puzzle game. The series was developed during a peak period of popularity for the franchise, aiming to bridge the gap between digital gameplay and traditional narrative storytelling by introducing a character-driven adventure set within the game's expansive world of monsters and elemental powers.

The animation reflects Studio Pierrot's long-standing experience in shonen-style storytelling, focusing on a protagonist named Ace who serves as a representative for players interacting with the game's creature-collection mechanics. While the series was intended to appeal primarily to the younger audience already familiar with the franchise, its reception was largely defined by its function as a promotional tie-in, blending familiar gameplay tropes with the studio's established aesthetic for action-heavy, serialized animation.
