Where it came from
Q Transformers: Kaettekita Convoy no Nazo was produced by the studio DLE in 2015 as a promotional tie-in for the Takara Tomy Q Transformers toy line, which reimagined classic characters as stylized, super-deformed vehicles. The series served as a humorous, low-budget continuation of the franchise's legacy, specifically referencing the notoriously difficult 1986 Famicom game 'Transformers: Mystery of Convoy' in its title and premise.
The animation style, characterized by its static, conversation-heavy format, was a deliberate choice by the production team to emphasize comedic dialogue and self-referential humor rather than action. The show was received by fans as a niche, lighthearted experiment that embraced the absurdity of the brand's history, functioning more as a meta-commentary on Transformers fandom than a traditional narrative entry.
