Where it came from
The Queen's Blade OVA specials were produced by studio ARMS in 2011 to expand upon the fantasy combat franchise originally based on a series of visual combat gamebooks by Hobby Japan. Following the success of the two television anime seasons, these specials were created as direct-to-video releases to bridge narrative gaps and further explore the elaborate character designs that defined the series' aesthetic.
The design of these animations adhered to the signature style established by the studio, emphasizing high-fidelity character art and dynamic battle choreography within the established Queen's Blade world. While the franchise was known for its provocative visuals and distinctive illustration style, these specials were received primarily by the existing fan base as a continuation of the established lore and character-driven vignettes rather than a departure from the established source material.
