Queen's Blade: Grimoire

Queen's Blade: Grimoire emerged in 2016 as a standalone OVA series produced by Studio Fortes, serving as a reimagined expansion of the long-running Queen's Blade franchise. Moving away from the established characters of the original visual combat books, this installment introduces a new fantasy realm where the protagonists are transported into a grimoire, necessitating a quest to recover scattered pages. The project was intended to maintain the franchise's signature focus on character-driven battles and elaborate costume design while transitioning into a more high-fantasy narrative framework.

The visual direction and character designs in Grimoire prioritize the intricate, highly stylized aesthetic that became synonymous with the series' transition from tabletop game to animation. Following the franchise's history of utilizing various artists to craft distinct character archetypes, this iteration leans heavily into detailed illustrations that emphasize personality and combat flair. While the series was received by its dedicated niche audience as a faithful continuation of the brand's established tropes, it largely operated within the pre-existing community of Queen's Blade fans rather than seeking broad mainstream crossover appeal.
