Ramen Akaneko

Ramen Akaneko, or Red Cat Ramen, originated as a manga series by Angyuman before being adapted into a television anime series by E&H production in 2024. The story centers on a ramen shop staffed entirely by talking cats, balancing whimsical workplace comedy with earnest explorations of human connection and personal growth. The production aimed to translate the series' cozy, low-stakes atmosphere into a fluid animation style that emphasizes character expressions and the detailed, appetizing preparation of ramen.

The project was directed by Hisatoshi Shimizu, who utilized the creative freedom of the series to highlight the distinct personalities of the feline staff, such as the stoic manager Bunzo. The show was received as a refreshing entry in the slice-of-life genre, praised for its unique visual warmth and its ability to blend humor with poignant moments. Its design choices, particularly the animation of the cats' movements and the warm color palette of the shop, were intentional efforts to establish a comforting, grounded world amidst the supernatural premise.
