Where it came from
Reception magazine was established in 2017 as a biannual independent publication based in Paris. Each issue functions as a thematic exploration centered on a single, iconic restaurant that has left a lasting imprint on culinary and cultural history. The founders intended to move beyond traditional food journalism, opting instead to treat the chosen dining establishment as a lens through which to examine local architecture, design, and social rituals.
The publication is celebrated for its minimalist, high-quality aesthetic and its reliance on archival photography, personal essays, and interviews with those who have shaped the restaurant’s legacy. By focusing exclusively on one location per issue—ranging from legendary neighborhood spots to internationally recognized institutions—it provides a deep, archival-style study. The magazine has been well-received by design enthusiasts and food critics alike for its careful curation and its commitment to print as a tactile, long-form experience.
