Recorder to Randoseru

Recorder to Randoseru, or Recorder and Randsel, originated as a four-panel gag manga series by Meme Higashiya that began serialization in 2008. The story centers on Atsushi Miyagawa, an eleven-year-old boy who stands over six feet tall, and his older sister Atsumi, who is significantly shorter and younger-looking than her age. This central visual juxtaposition drives the series' comedy, as the characters constantly face misunderstandings due to their physical appearances versus their actual maturity.

The 2012 original video animation was produced by Studio Seven and directed by Hiroshi Kimura, who focused on translating the manga’s rapid-fire gag rhythm into a short-form episodic format. The adaptation was notable for its brevity, leaning into the absurdity of the premise to reflect the lighthearted tone of the source material. Upon its release, it was received as a niche comedy project, appreciated primarily by fans of the original manga for its faithfulness to the character designs and the peculiar, deadpan humor of its central premise.
