Re:PETIT was produced in 2016 by Studio PuYUKAI, a boutique animation house specializing in the super-deformed, or chibi, aesthetic. The series was commissioned as a promotional companion project to the main Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World anime adaptation, designed to provide a lighthearted, comedic counterbalance to the dark, high-stakes narrative of the primary series. By shrinking the characters into exaggerated, whimsical proportions, the studio focused on the domestic interactions and trivial squabbles of the cast.

The series was directed by Minoru Ashina, who established the signature comedic pacing and visual shorthand that Studio PuYUKAI is known for. The design choice to strip away the complex tension of the source material allowed the production to explore the ensemble cast's personalities through short, gag-driven vignettes.
