The series reimagines the events of the Wars of the Roses in 15th-century England, drawing heavy inspiration from William Shakespeare's Henry VI and Richard III. Kanno’s original work is noted for its dark fantasy aesthetic and its complex, gender-fluid portrayal of Richard, Duke of Gloucester, placing the historical conflict within a lens of tragic romanticism and psychological depth.
