Where it came from
Resident Evil: Vendetta was produced by Marza Animation Planet and released in 2017 as the third CGI feature film in the Resident Evil franchise. Developed to bridge the narrative gap between earlier games and films, the project was steered by executive producer Takashi Shimizu, known for his work in the horror genre, and directed by Takanori Tsujimoto. The film was conceived to provide a high-fidelity cinematic experience that leveraged modern motion-capture technology to emphasize the survival-horror roots of the series, shifting away from the live-action film continuity.
The design and animation process focused on integrating the series' iconic characters, such as Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, into a dark, visceral aesthetic that mirrored the tension of the games. The production team aimed for a balance between intense action choreography and atmospheric dread, utilizing advanced rendering to elevate character models beyond previous installments. Upon its release, the film was received as a technically impressive addition to the franchise that catered specifically to long-term fans of the source material's lore and tone.
