Resident Evil: Death Island

Resident Evil: Death Island is a 2023 computer-animated horror film that serves as a direct sequel to Resident Evil: Vendetta and takes place within the established canon of the video game franchise. Produced by the studio Quebico and directed by Eiichiro Hasumi, the film was developed to unite iconic series protagonists—including Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Jill Valentine—for the first time in a feature-length cinematic narrative. The production sought to balance the high-octane action characteristic of the later game entries with the atmospheric tension of the series' roots, utilizing sophisticated motion-capture technology to modernize character designs while paying homage to their classic appearances.

The film was released during a period of renewed interest in the Resident Evil intellectual property, benefiting from the momentum of Capcom’s successful game remakes and prior CGI installments. Designed to expand the overarching lore, the story centers on a mission at Alcatraz Island, a setting chosen to provide a claustrophobic, survival-horror environment. Upon its debut, the film was received primarily by the existing fan base as a quintessential entry in the CGI film timeline, noted for its emphasis on fan-service interactions between the core ensemble cast and its commitment to the aesthetic established by previous Quebico productions.
