Rinshi!! Ekodachan

Rinshi!! Ekodachan was produced in 2019 by the studio Zero-G as a surreal adaptation of Rieko Danjiri’s long-running manga series. The original manga, which began serialization in 2005, depicts the cynical, humorous daily life of a freelance worker living in Tokyo. The project is notable for its experimental structure, where each of the twelve episodes features a different director and animation style, reflecting a collaborative effort to interpret the protagonist’s erratic and observational personality through vastly different artistic lenses.

The series design was heavily influenced by the anthology format, allowing creators to deviate from traditional narrative consistency in favor of creative stylistic freedom. By rotating animation teams and directorial visions for each episode, the production team aimed to capture the disjointed, unpredictable nature of Ekoda’s existence. Upon its release, the series was received as a niche but conceptually ambitious experiment, praised for its willingness to break the conventions of standard television anime production to match the irreverent tone of its source material.
