Saint Beast: Ikusen no Hiru to Yoru-hen

Saint Beast: Ikusen no Hiru to Yoru-hen was released in 2005 as part of the broader Saint Beast franchise, which originated from a radio drama series featuring a cast of popular male voice actors. Produced by Studio Madhouse, the OVA served as a direct animation adaptation of the gothic fantasy world where anthropomorphic gods are exiled to Earth. The project capitalizes on the character-driven appeal of the original drama CDs, focusing on the visual character designs by Kairi Yura, whose distinct, elegant aesthetic became the hallmark of the series.

The production sought to expand the franchise's reach by translating its audio-only popularity into the visual medium of anime. Critics and fans of the time generally noted the OVA for its polished, atmospheric animation typical of Madhouse’s mid-2000s output, though it remained largely a niche product catering to existing devotees of the franchise. It represents a specific moment in anime history where voice actor-led media projects were gaining significant commercial traction in Japan, blending idol culture with traditional fantasy storytelling.
