Where it came from
Saint October was produced by Studio Hibari and broadcast in 2007 as a magical girl anime series conceptualized by Konami. It emerged during a period when the genre was exploring darker, gothic-inspired aesthetic themes, contrasting traditional upbeat transformation tropes with mystery-solving narratives set in a reimagined nineteenth-century London.
The series centers on three young girls who act as private detectives, drawing on elements of classic literature and folklore for their character designs. While the visual style is distinct for its ornate costuming and moody color palettes, the series met with a niche reception upon release, ultimately serving as an experimental entry in Konami's portfolio of multimedia intellectual properties from the mid-2000s.
