Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Elysion

Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Elysion serves as the final installment of the multi-part Hades adaptation produced by Toei Animation, concluding the long-running Sanctuary and Inferno arcs. Released in 2008, these six episodes brought Masami Kurumada’s original manga climax to the screen, depicting the Saints' final battle against the gods Thanatos and Hypnos within the mythical realm of Elysion. The production faced the challenge of adapting a highly dense and climactic narrative segment, aiming to provide a definitive resolution to a saga that had captivated fans since the 1980s.

The visual direction for Elysion maintained the classic aesthetic established in the earlier Hades OVAs, prioritizing high-stakes action and the iconic ornate armor designs known as God Cloths. While the series received criticism from some purists regarding pacing and animation consistency compared to the earlier Sanctuary chapters, it remains a significant touchstone for the franchise. It successfully honored the legacy of the Saint Seiya brand by delivering the emotional payoff and grand-scale mythology that fans had anticipated for years following the conclusion of the original television series.
