Where it came from
Sakura no Chikai was produced in 2018 by Studio IMS as part of the Marronni☆Yell project, an initiative designed to promote tourism and local pride for Shimotsuke City in the Tochigi Prefecture of Japan. The project features characters named after local specialties, such as kanpyo and strawberries, to create an approachable mascot-driven campaign that bridges municipal marketing and anime culture.
The short was developed as a character-led promotional piece aimed at highlighting the charm of the Shimotsuke region, specifically its famous cherry blossoms and historical sites. While the project is a niche regional endeavor, it is recognized for its commitment to local engagement, utilizing the vibrant, classic aesthetic common in mid-2010s slice-of-life anime to foster a sense of community connection and regional identity.
