A strange girl transfers to Mitsuba Elementary School. At first glance, she is a normal student. However, she is a great athlete, and can talk to animals. According to her, she is the 33rd descendant of the great ninja, Sarutobi Sasuke. Futhermore, her dog, Puku, can talk. Because she doesn’t live in any house, she spends a night at Miko-chan’s room. She is turned out of the room once. However, because they thank her for extinguishing the fire, they let her stay at their house. After that, she makes a name at school.

Where it came from
Sarutobi Ecchan was produced by Toei Animation and premiered on Japanese television in 1971. The series was based on a manga by Shotaro Ishinomori, a prolific and influential artist known for creating iconic properties like Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider. The show centers on a young, super-powered girl who is a descendant of the legendary ninja Sarutobi Sasuke, blending supernatural elements with the everyday school life of its protagonist in a tone typical of the experimental animation coming out of Toei during the early 1970s.
The character design reflects the transition period in anime where classic, rounded aesthetics were increasingly influenced by the dynamic, sharp energy of mid-century manga. As an early example of the 'magical girl' adjacent genre, the series aimed to balance humor with action, appealing to a younger demographic. While it remains a niche title compared to the studio's major superhero franchises, it is often cited by animation historians as a quintessential piece of the era's lighthearted, imaginative storytelling.
