Where it came from
Sasaki and Miyano: A Tiny Episode From Before He Realized His Feelings was produced by Studio Deen and released in 2022 as an original video animation. It serves as a narrative bridge within the popular boys-love franchise, specifically adapted from a side story found in the original manga series by Harusono Sho. The project was conceived to offer fans additional insight into the burgeoning relationship between the two protagonists, focusing on the subtle, internal shifts occurring before their romantic feelings are explicitly acknowledged.
The animation reflects the aesthetic consistency established by the 2022 television series, emphasizing a gentle, character-driven visual style that prioritizes emotional intimacy over high-octane action. Director Shinji Ishihira sought to maintain the series' reputation for nuanced storytelling and authentic character interactions. Upon its release, it was well-received by the existing fanbase, who appreciated the animation's fidelity to the source material and its ability to expand upon the quiet, formative moments of the characters' dynamic.
