Where it came from
School Rumble Third Term was released in 2008 as a two-episode original video animation (OVA) series, serving as a concluding bridge for the anime adaptation of Jin Kobayashi's popular romantic comedy manga. Produced by Studio Comet and released by Kodansha, these episodes were designed to wrap up unresolved narrative arcs from the second television season, focusing on the comedic misunderstandings and romantic tensions between Tenma Tsukamoto, Kenji Harima, and their classmates.
The animation reflects the high-energy, slapstick aesthetic established in the earlier seasons, prioritizing expressive character designs and rapid-fire visual gags. While the transition from a serialized television format to a limited OVA release was met with mixed reactions from fans hoping for a more comprehensive adaptation of the remaining manga chapters, the series remains a significant piece of the franchise's history for its role in providing closure to the high school antics of the original cast.
