Where it came from
Released in 2014, this special episode serves as a companion piece to the original television anime series Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda, produced by A-1 Pictures. The series was directed by Tensai Okamura, who sought to blend elements of absurdity, magical girl tropes, and global domination themes. This special was crafted to expand upon the whimsical yet surprisingly grounded world-building of the Zvezda organization, offering fans further insight into the eccentric members led by the young Kate Hoshimiya.
The visual design of the Zvezda universe, characterized by its vibrant color palette and distinctive character aesthetics, was heavily influenced by character designer Keigo Sasaki. In this installment, the production team maintained the show's hallmark juxtaposition of high-stakes world conquest and mundane slice-of-life interactions. The work was generally received as a lighthearted extension of the series, catering primarily to established viewers who enjoyed the show's unique comedic tone and the chemistry of its core ensemble.
