Two OVA episodes featuring additional stories.
Episode 0: Ritsu and Takano used to date back in high school, but broke up due to a misunderstanding. This is that story.
Episode 12.5: Hatori and Chiaki go to visit the latter's family. It's really awkward in many, many ways.

Where it came from
The Sekaiichi Hatsukoi OVA was released in 2011 as a companion piece to the television anime adaptation of Shungiku Nakamura’s popular boys' love manga series. Produced by Studio DEEN, the OVA served as a bridge between the serialized chapters and the broadcast anime, focusing on the backstory and emotional development of the central characters. It was created to satisfy the established fanbase's desire for more narrative depth regarding the protagonist Ritsu Onodera’s professional transition into the world of shojo manga publishing.
Directed by Chiaki Kon, the production maintains the characteristic visual style and character designs established by the manga, emphasizing the dramatic and comedic tension synonymous with the franchise. The animation was received by its audience as a faithful expansion of the source material, successfully translating Nakamura’s signature character aesthetics and the series' workplace-romance tropes into a moving medium. Its release cemented Studio DEEN's reputation for navigating the specific tonal balance required for successful adaptations of this genre.
