Where it came from
The Sekai Douwa Anime Zenshuu, or World Masterpiece Fairy Tale Series, was produced by MLB—a studio often associated with international animation collaborations during the late 20th century. This OVA collection was designed to adapt classic global folklore and literature for a Japanese television and home video audience, aiming to capture the educational and moralistic tone popularized by similar cultural programming of the era.
The series prioritized clean, accessible character designs and soft, painterly backgrounds that adhered to the traditional aesthetic of mid-century Japanese animation. While these works were intended for family viewing, they have since gained a modest cult following among archivists who appreciate the earnest, straightforward adaptation style of 1980s educational media.
