The main plot revolves around the Yamata Empire's plan to destroy all the galaxy's negative karma using a massive technological reactor called the Naaga Generator. Unfortunately, negative karma cannot simply be destroyed, it must be atoned for. However the leader of the powerful mystic Buddhist Fuze Clan plans to stop the destruction of the negative karma which will end up creating the nine-headed Naaga and destroy the world if not the whole universe. To help in stopping the creation of the Naaga, the clan summons a Shinto god known as Susano, the Warrior God of Destruction. The powerful, arrogant, and homicidal god faces challenges. These include the Empire and the clan leader's own daughter, the bratty sorceress Seska, who is possessed by the power of the negative Karma and a powerful magic formula.

Where it came from
Senjutsu Choukoukaku Orion, known in English as Superconducting World Orion, originated as a manga series by Masamune Shirow in the late 1990s. The 2010 special, produced with the involvement of Horipro, serves as a distinct entry point into the complex, mystical, and technologically dense universe Shirow envisioned. This specific production was crafted to adapt the intricate aesthetic of the source material, which blends Shinto mythology with high-concept science fiction, aiming to capture the dense visual storytelling that defined Shirow’s signature style.
The design of this project reflects a bridge between classic 1990s cyberpunk sensibilities and the cleaner, more polished animation standards of the early 2010s. By incorporating the thematic weight of the original manga, the creative team sought to translate Shirow's dense panel layouts into a cohesive visual narrative. While the work remains a niche title within the broader landscape of anime adaptations, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts for its unique commitment to the esoteric and spiritual elements that set it apart from more conventional genre offerings.
