Where it came from
Shen Mu 3 is a sequel in the long-running Chinese animated series based on the popular xianxia web novel by Chen Dong. Produced by Wonder Cat Animation, the series translates the elaborate cultivation lore and high-fantasy aesthetics of the original literature into a 3D animation format, serving as a continuation of the narrative arc surrounding the protagonist Chen Nan.
The production sought to balance traditional wuxia elements with contemporary CG animation standards common in the Chinese streaming market. The design choices emphasize intricate character costuming and fluid choreography, reflecting the studio's attempt to modernize the source material's cult status while maintaining its stylistic roots in Eastern fantasy mythology.
