Where it came from
Shenmi Shijie Lixian Ji 3, released in 2016, serves as the third installment in the popular Chinese animated fantasy franchise produced by ITS CARTOON. Building upon the success of its predecessors, the film continues the adventures of its protagonists within a vibrant, mythical world. The production sought to elevate the visual standards of the series through more sophisticated computer-generated imagery, aiming to provide a high-quality domestic alternative for family audiences during the summer release window.
The creative direction for the film focused on expanding the world-building established in the first two entries, emphasizing themes of bravery and environmental stewardship. The studio aimed to bridge the gap between traditional narrative archetypes and modern animation techniques favored by younger viewers. Upon its release, the film was received as a significant project for ITS CARTOON, contributing to the studio's standing in the Chinese film market and demonstrating the commercial viability of indigenous animated storytelling.
