Shenmi Shijie Lixian Ji 2

Shenmi Shijie Lixian Ji 2, known internationally as Yugo & Lala 2, was released in 2014 as the follow-up to the 2012 original animated feature produced by ITS CARTOON. Building upon the established premise of a young girl named Yugo who enters a mystical wilderness to befriend a creature named Lala, this installment was developed to expand the world-building and character dynamics initiated by director Wang Yunfei. The production focused on refining the 3D computer-generated animation techniques that the studio had been pioneering within the domestic Chinese market, aiming to create a visually distinct fantasy landscape that balanced local folklore sensibilities with a modern adventure structure.

The creative intent behind the sequel was to deepen the emotional connection between the two protagonists while addressing the themes of ecological stewardship and courage. Critics and audiences noted the film's commitment to a bright, saturated aesthetic, which helped it stand out as a prominent entry in the mid-2010s wave of independent Chinese animated features. While it faced the challenges common to mid-budget animation, the film helped cement the 'Yugo & Lala' series as a recognized brand in Chinese family cinema, leading to subsequent sequels that continued to explore the pair’s evolving relationship.
