Where it came from
Sheng Xu was produced by the studio Build Dream as an original net animation, fitting into the expanding landscape of Chinese digital animation that emerged in the late 2010s. The project reflects a broader movement within the domestic industry to capitalize on localized fantasy aesthetics and serialized web storytelling, utilizing modern CGI techniques to establish a distinct visual identity for its characters and environments.
The creative direction focused on synthesizing traditional martial arts motifs with high-fidelity digital rendering, aiming to appeal to a younger, tech-savvy audience accustomed to the pacing of web-based serials. While the series emerged during a period of intense competition among streaming platforms, it is recognized primarily for its technical implementation of character modeling and its adherence to established genre tropes that resonate within the Chinese animation fan community.
