Where it came from
Released in 2010 by Marvelous Entertainment, this OVA serves as a supplementary chapter to the Shin Koihime†Musou anime series. The franchise is based on a series of visual novels that reimagined the historical figures of the Chinese Three Kingdoms period as female characters. The production was intended to capitalize on the popularity of the television broadcast, offering fans additional character-focused vignettes that maintained the series' established aesthetic and comedic tone.
The character designs for the anime adaptation were overseen by the production staff at Doga Kobo, who aimed to preserve the distinct, colorful, and heavily stylized art style found in the original BaseSon visual novels. The OVA was received primarily by the existing fan base of the franchise, functioning as a collectible extension for viewers who enjoyed the lighthearted blend of historical fiction and harem-genre tropes common to the late 2000s anime landscape.
