Shin Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo

Shin Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo, often referred to as the second television adaptation of Osamu Akimoto's long-running manga series, was produced by Studio Gallop and aired starting in the late 1990s. The series was designed to capture the slapstick comedy and neighborhood charm of the original work, focusing on the daily exploits of the eccentric police officer Kankichi Ryotsu. Gallop maintained a distinctive aesthetic that mirrored the manga's expressive character designs while navigating the episodic structure necessitated by a long-running broadcast format.

The production sought to balance the frenetic energy of Ryotsu's schemes with the relatable, mundane setting of a local police box in Tokyo's Katsushika ward. Studio Gallop opted for a vibrant, accessible animation style that allowed for the show's hallmark visual gags and rapid-fire dialogue. Upon its release, the series was received as a cultural staple in Japan, earning widespread praise for its longevity and its ability to consistently mirror the social and technological trends of the era through a comedic lens.
