Where it came from
Released by Capcom in 2006 to coincide with the launch of the PlayStation 2 title Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, this original video animation served as a narrative bridge and promotional companion to the game. It was produced to deepen the lore of the Sengoku-period fantasy setting, fleshing out the origins and motivations of the protagonist, Soki, and his companions as they face the threat of the Genma.
The production sought to capture the dark, atmospheric aesthetic of the Onimusha series through stylized animation that complemented the game's cinematic cutscenes. By focusing on character development and the internal conflicts within the cast, the OVA was designed to provide a more intimate look at the story than the gameplay mechanics allowed, and it was generally received by fans of the franchise as a meaningful expansion of the title's dark-fantasy world.
