Shin Ringetsu

Shin Ringetsu was released in 2008 as a direct-to-video production by the Milky Animation Label. It emerged during a period of experimentation for the studio, which sought to blend atmospheric storytelling with the highly stylized character designs typical of late-2000s independent animation projects. The project was conceived as a standalone atmospheric piece, moving away from the more commercial, long-running series that dominated the label’s output at the time.

The visual direction for the OVA was led by the studio’s internal team, who aimed for a muted, melancholic palette to underscore the narrative's themes of solitude and memory. Upon its release, the work received a niche but appreciative reception among enthusiasts of experimental animation, who noted its deliberate pacing and focus on environmental world-building. While it remained a cult-interest title rather than a mainstream success, it is often cited as an example of the label's creative range during that era.
