Where it came from
Shinken Seminar Koukou Kouza is a series of promotional animated shorts commissioned by Benesse Corporation to market their supplemental educational materials to high school students in Japan. Produced by Studio Manglobe in 2012, these shorts were designed to bridge the gap between traditional advertising and the aesthetic sensibilities of the contemporary anime fan base, utilizing high-quality character animation to foster a stronger brand connection with prospective users.
The animation was crafted by the creative teams at Manglobe, who were known at the time for their distinct stylistic flair on projects like Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy. By employing professional-grade voice acting and dynamic visual sequences, the production sought to humanize the often rigorous academic pressure of the Shinken Seminar curriculum. While intended strictly for television spots and web distribution, the shorts gained a cult following within the anime community for their surprisingly high production values relative to their advertising purpose.
