Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight: Rondo Rondo Rondo

Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight: Rondo Rondo Rondo serves as the theatrical compilation film for the 2018 multimedia franchise, which uniquely blends traditional anime storytelling with live-stage musical performances. Produced by Kinema Citrus, the film was released in 2020 as a bridge between the television series and the subsequent feature-length sequel. Its purpose was to recontextualize the original narrative arc through a meta-theatrical lens, utilizing new sequences and restructured pacing to deepen the psychological exploration of the protagonist, Karen Aijo, and her fated counterpart, Hikari Kagura.

The film's visual design is characterized by the distinct, surreal aesthetic established by director Tomohiro Furukawa, who sought to emphasize the themes of performance, sacrifice, and the cyclical nature of the stage. The production team focused on enhancing the interplay between shadow-play sequences and the vibrant, high-stakes duels that define the series. Upon its release, the film was well-regarded by critics and the franchise's fanbase for its experimental structure and its ability to transform familiar source material into a sophisticated commentary on the characters' growth and their commitment to their shared dream.
