Where it came from
Shouji Li de Huanxiong Xiaozhen, known in English as Raccoon Town in My Phone, is an animated short series produced by the Chinese platform bilibili. Released as part of the studio's push into serialized, bite-sized digital content, the series follows the whimsical lives of anthropomorphic raccoons residing within the digital confines of a smartphone. It emerged during a period of rapid growth for Chinese web animation, reflecting a shift toward stylized, low-frame-rate, and humor-driven storytelling designed specifically for mobile consumption.
The visual identity of the series is defined by a soft, rounded aesthetic that emphasizes accessibility and charm, moving away from the high-octane action typical of earlier domestic animation. The character designs prioritize simple silhouettes and expressive facial features to ensure clarity on small screens. Upon its debut, the series was received as a gentle, slice-of-life experiment, gaining a dedicated following among younger viewers who appreciated its cozy atmosphere and the lighthearted, surreal nature of its world-building.
