Where it came from
Shushan Qi Xian Lu, or Legend of the Seven Immortals of Shushan, represents a significant entry in the early 2000s resurgence of Chinese independent animation. Produced by Wawayu Animation, the series was created during a period of experimentation within the domestic digital animation industry, aiming to adapt classic xianxia folklore into a serialized episodic format for online distribution.
The series is noted for its ambitious use of early 3D computer graphics to depict the fantastical landscapes of the Shushan mountains. While the animation techniques reflect the technical constraints and the aesthetic trends of the era, the work is remembered for its foundational role in establishing a visual language for Chinese web-based fantasy animations, ultimately finding a dedicated audience among viewers interested in the development of domestic digital storytelling.
