Where it came from
Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Chaos in Urbanrama was produced by Studio DEEN and released in 2023 as the third season of the 2020 revival of the classic fantasy anime franchise. The series serves as a direct continuation of the narrative, adapting the urban-focused arc of Yoshinobu Akita's original light novel series, which first gained popularity in the mid-1990s as a deconstruction of traditional high-fantasy tropes.
The character design for this iteration was handled by the production team at Studio DEEN, aiming to maintain a visual continuity with the 2020 reboot while emphasizing the distinct, slightly more industrial setting of the Urbanrama arc. The production was met with a nuanced reception, as long-term fans of the source material evaluated the adaptation's pace and fidelity compared to both the 1998 original anime and the light novels themselves.
