Sore Ike! Anpanman: Tekka no Maki-chan to Kin no Kamameshidon

Sore Ike! Anpanman: Tekka no Maki-chan to Kin no Kamameshidon was released in 2002 as the fourteenth feature-length film in the long-running Anpanman animated franchise. Created by Takashi Yanase, the series originated as a picture book in 1973 and evolved into a cultural phenomenon in Japan, centered on the altruistic superhero Anpanman who feeds the hungry by offering pieces of his bread-based head. This particular entry, directed by Shunji Oga, was produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha to coincide with the annual summer release schedule that has sustained the franchise’s popularity for decades.

The film was designed to highlight the recurring supporting characters Tekka no Maki-chan and Kin no Kamameshidon, reflecting the series' trademark approach of pairing whimsical food-themed personas with gentle moral lessons. The aesthetic remains consistent with the studio's established style, favoring bright, primary colors and simple character designs that cater to a preschool audience. Like its predecessors, the film was received as a reliable addition to the Anpanman canon, praised for its accessibility and its ability to seamlessly integrate new character-driven narratives into the expansive, established world of Yanase's creation.
