SpoGomi: World Cup Exhibition Match Arc

The SpoGomi World Cup Exhibition Match Arc serves as a promotional short released by the Japanese studio Tomason in 2022. It was created to raise awareness for SpoGomi, a unique competitive sport originating in Japan that combines 'sport' and 'gomi'—the Japanese word for trash—where teams compete to collect the most litter in a designated area within a set time frame. The animation serves as a lighthearted, high-energy introduction to the sport's rules and the earnest spirit of environmental preservation that drives its participants.

The animation reflects the signature visual style of Studio Tomason, known for its dynamic, whimsical approach to storytelling. By framing the act of trash collection as an intense, televised athletic endeavor, the short seeks to modernize the image of community cleanup efforts, making them feel accessible and engaging to a younger, pop-culture-focused demographic. It was received as a creative piece of public service media, effectively bridging the gap between recreational activity and social responsibility through recognizable anime tropes.
