Sprite: Between Two Worlds

Sprite: Between Two Worlds, released in 1997, is an original video animation produced by J.C.Staff. It emerged during a decade defined by experimental science fiction and fantasy storytelling in the anime industry, serving as a standalone production that aimed to blend supernatural elements with traditional coming-of-age narratives. Its creation was part of a broader effort by studios of the era to explore short-form storytelling outside of long-running serialized television.

The visual design and directorial vision sought to capture a sense of atmospheric melancholy, utilizing the clean, detailed aesthetic J.C.Staff was known for developing throughout the mid-nineties. While it remains a niche entry in the studio's extensive filmography, it is often discussed by enthusiasts for its unique conceptual framing of interpersonal duality and the distinct, hand-drawn aesthetic that preceded the industry's eventual shift toward digital animation.
