Strange Love

Strange Love, released in 1997, is an adult-oriented original video animation (OVA) produced by Group TAC. During the 1990s, the studio was well-regarded for its work on mainstream projects like various television anime, yet this specific title reflects the period's trend of established studios occasionally exploring the direct-to-video erotic market. It captures the distinct aesthetic of late-90s digital and cel-hybrid animation, prioritizing a specific narrative tone common in the niche OVA market of that era.

The production sought to lean into the psychological and romantic themes prevalent in adult animation of the late twentieth century. While Group TAC was known for a wide range of stylistic outputs, the design choices in Strange Love emphasize the moody, atmospheric visuals common to the era's character-driven dramas. Upon its release, it was primarily distributed within the dedicated hobbyist market, where it remains a point of interest for collectors focusing on the diverse output of 1990s Japanese animation studios.
