By the year 2120, humans have successfully colonized other planets following the near devestation of Earth from the last great world war. However, on Gloire, one such colony are surprised and unprepared at the arrival of The Zor, a group of beings whom were the original inhabitants of the planet and left following similar near fatal events. Coming to reclaim their former home world, a relentless war erupts between both races that ultimately leads to a cataclysmic showdown and into a no-win scenario for either.

Where it came from
Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross was produced by Tatsunoko Production in 1984 as the third and final installment in the Super Dimension trilogy. It was conceived during a period of intense creative output for mecha anime, following the immense success of Macross. The series was designed to explore a more grounded, military-focused narrative compared to its predecessors, focusing on the defense of a colonized planet against an enigmatic alien force known as the Zor.
The character designs were handled by Motosuke Takahashi and his team, who aimed for a distinct aesthetic that balanced sci-fi tropes with a more serious, ensemble-cast drama. While the series struggled to find a massive audience during its original Japanese broadcast, it gained a significant, albeit complex, legacy in the West when it was heavily edited and repurposed by Harmony Gold to form the second act of Robotech, an adaptation that altered the show’s tone and narrative context for American television.
