Taiho Shichauzo: Full Throttle Special

Taiho Shichauzo: Full Throttle Special, released in 2008, serves as an extra episode for the third television season of the You're Under Arrest franchise. Produced by Studio DEEN, this special continues the long-running narrative centered on the professional and personal lives of Tokyo Metropolitan Police officers Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa. The episode reflects the enduring popularity of Kosuke Fujishima’s original manga, which gained widespread acclaim for its blend of lighthearted police procedural elements and detailed mechanical depictions of vehicles.

The animation direction for the Full Throttle series sought to modernize the visual aesthetic established in earlier adaptations while retaining the charm of the 1990s originals. Studio DEEN utilized a refined character design style that aimed for a more contemporary look, intended to appeal to both long-term fans of the franchise and new viewers. While the special provided a satisfying conclusion to the third series, it was received as a nostalgic farewell to a series that had become a hallmark of the buddy-cop anime subgenre since its initial debut in the late 1980s.
