Having a friend that knows you inside out should be a good thing, but in Nishikata's case, the opposite is true.
His classmate Takagi loves to tease him on a daily basis, and she uses her extensive knowledge of his behavior to predict exactly how he will react to her teasing, making it nearly impossible for Nishikata to ever make a successful comeback. Despite this, Nishikata vows to someday give Takagi a taste of her own medicine by making her blush out of embarrassment from his teasing.

Where it came from
Teasing Master Takagi-san was produced by Shin-Ei Animation and premiered in 2018, adapting the popular manga series by Soichiro Yamamoto. The series was developed as a slice-of-life comedy centered on the playful, ongoing psychological games between two middle school classmates, Takagi and Nishikata. Its production sought to capture the understated charm of the original manga, focusing on the scenic atmosphere of Shodoshima, which served as the real-world inspiration for the show's setting.
Directed by Hiroaki Akagi, the animation aimed to emphasize character chemistry through subtle facial expressions and pacing rather than high-action sequences. The character design process prioritized a soft, clean aesthetic to reflect the innocence of the protagonists' interactions. Upon its release, the series was well-received for its gentle tone and became a notable entry in the romance-comedy genre, eventually leading to multiple sequels and a theatrical film.
