The National Tournament continues for Ryouma Echizen and the Seishun Academy Boys' Tennis Team as they face off against last year's semifinalist, Shitenhouji Middle School. As winners of the Kansai Regionals, Shitenhouji is one of the top contenders to win this year's tournament. What's more, each member of the Shitenhouji team has skills that are said to surpass their Seishun counterparts. Shitenhouji also has Kintarou Tooyama, another "super rookie" who rivals Ryouma in strength and technique. Seishun will have to push the limits of their abilities to stand a chance at defeating the Kansai champions in this East versus West matchup.

Where it came from
The Tennis no Ouji-sama: Zenkoku Taikai-hen Semifinal OVA series was released in 2007 as a direct continuation of the Prince of Tennis anime franchise. Produced by Studio I.G, these episodes were designed to adapt the highly anticipated national tournament arc from Takeshi Konomi’s original manga, providing a more detailed and high-fidelity animation style than the preceding television broadcast. The shift to the OVA format allowed the production team to focus on the intense, high-stakes matches of the semifinal round with greater creative freedom.
The series is noted for its focus on the rivalry between Seishun Academy and Shitenhoji, showcasing the evolution of the characters' signature techniques. Fans and critics generally received the installments well, appreciating the tighter narrative pacing and the refined character designs that transitioned the series into a more modern aesthetic. As a cornerstone of the sports anime genre, this production solidified the cultural impact of the franchise during the mid-2000s, maintaining the dedicated following that had grown since the manga’s debut.
