Where it came from
TenPuru: No One Can Live on Loneliness, often referred to simply as TenPuru, premiered as an anime television series in the summer of 2023. Produced by Studio Gekkou, the project was adapted from the manga series by Kimitake Yoshioka, who is well known for his intricate character work. The narrative follows Akagami Akemitsu, a young man attempting to renounce his worldly desires by becoming a Buddhist monk, only to find himself surrounded by women at a nunnery.
The series was directed by Kazuomi Koga, who aimed to blend traditional romantic comedy tropes with the vibrant, expressive character designs characteristic of modern fanservice-oriented anime. While the show received attention for its comedic timing and visual style, its reception among critics was largely focused on its adherence to established harem genre conventions, finding its niche among audiences who enjoy the balance of lighthearted humor and character-driven hijinks.
