The second season of Terra Formars.
In Terra Formars Revenge, the crew members of the Annex I continue to fight against Terraformars—the large humanoid cockroaches that evolved from the ones sent to Mars centuries ago. However, far from discovering the cure for the lethal Alien Engine Virus that has been plaguing Earth, the Annex I team have learned that some squadrons have agendas from their own countries. Now, the squadrons must not only fight against the Terraformars for their survival, but also each other in the never-ending battle for international dominance.

Where it came from
Terra Formars: Revenge serves as the second season of the anime adaptation based on the popular manga series written by Yu Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana. Produced by studio LIDENFILMS and aired in 2016, this installment aimed to continue the intense science-fiction narrative detailing humanity's struggle against humanoid cockroaches on a terraformed Mars. The transition from the first season involved a significant shift in production staff and art style, seeking to lean further into the high-stakes action and character-driven conflict central to the source material.
The series emerged during a period of heightened interest in seinen manga adaptations, with the production team striving to balance the gritty horror elements of the original work with the kinetic requirements of a televised action series. Reception for the second season was mixed, with critics and long-term fans frequently noting the stark departure in visual aesthetic from the first season, leading to considerable discussion within the anime community regarding the challenges of maintaining tonal and stylistic consistency across long-running franchise adaptations.
